3.The South

The south of Vietnam, which includes the largest city of Ho Chi Minh and the Mekong Delta region, has a tropical climate with two seasons: dry and rainy. Day 1: Hanoi – Vu Linh – Thac Ba Lake: Thac Ba Lake is one of the largest artificial lakes in Vietnam, created by the construction of a hydroelectric dam in 1970. The lake is surrounded by green hills and forests, and dotted with hundreds of islands and islets. You can take a boat ride on the lake, swim in the clear water, or fish with the locals.

Day 2: Thac Ba Lake – Mu Cang Chai: Continue your trip to Mu Cang Chai, a district in Yen Bai province, famous for its terraced rice fields. The rice fields are a masterpiece of the Hmong people, who have been cultivating the land for centuries. Day 5: Xin Man – Ha Giang: Continue your trip to Ha Giang, the capital of Ha Giang province, and the gateway to the Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The geopark covers an area of over 2,300 square kilometers, and features a unique and diverse geological formation, with karst mountains, valleys, caves, and fossils. 

Day 6: Ha Giang – Meo Vac: Ride from Ha Giang to Meo Vac, a district in the Northernmost part of Ha Giang province, bordering China. Meo Vac is one of the most remote and rugged areas in Vietnam, where you can see the majestic and dramatic scenery of the Dong Van Karst Plateau. The highlight of this route is the Ma Pi Leng Pass, one of the most dangerous and beautiful passes in Vietnam, which offers breathtaking views of the Nho Que River and the surrounding mountains.

Day 7: Meo Vac – Ba Be National Park: Leave Meo Vac and head to Ba Be National Park, a natural reserve in Bac Kan province, famous for its freshwater lake and biodiversity. Ba Be Lake is the largest natural lake in Vietnam, and one of the 100 largest freshwater lakes in the world. The lake is surrounded by limestone karst formations, evergreen forests, waterfalls, and caves.
